Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has said that the welfare trust is open to help journalists critical of the government if they are in distress.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a 2020-21 financial assistance cheque distribution ceremony to the Journalists Welfare Trust at the Bangladesh Press Institute auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hasan, Secretary of the ministry Khaja Mia, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Molla Jalal, Joint Secretary General Abdul Majid, Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Kuddus Afrad and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu spoke as special guests with Trust Managing Director Zafar Wazed in the chair.
Mentioning that the journalist-friendly Awami League government has ensured and continues to ensure the freedom and development of the media, Dr Hasan Mahmud said,'The free freedom enjoyed by the media in Bangladesh is unprecedented for a developing country We are working with the belief that it is necessary for the sake of the country, to advance the multi-dimensional society system and for the development of the state.

The assistance of the trust is also open to journalists who oppose and criticize us, the minister said 'The state is for everyone If anyone who criticizes the Awami League government is unhappy, falls within our policy, this assistance is also open to him and we have implemented it '.
The information minister also requested the stakeholders to distribute Tk 20 million, the special allocation given to the journalists before Ramadan, to the journalists before Eid.

Regarding the treatment of BNP leader Khaleda Zia, Minister Hasan Mahmud said,'She was the prime minister of the country, a senior politician, I wish her a speedy recovery.
