The Agriculture Minister said this while inaugurating the Boro paddy harvesting program at Astana village of Joycolls union in Sunamganj's South Sunamganj upazila online from the conference room of the Bangladesh Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday (April 1).
The Agriculture Minister said that this year, the target of Boro rice cultivation was set at about 48 lakh hectares Boro rice has been cultivated on 48 83 lakh hectares across the country, surpassing the target As a result, Boro has been cultivated on 83,000 hectares more than the target.
This year, emphasis was laid on increasing the cultivation of hybrid varieties of rice as the productivity is high Therefore, hybrid cultivation has increased by about 3 lakh hectares compared to last year The average yield of 1 tonne per hectare will increase the production by at least 3 lakh tonnes.
It is to be noted that Boro has a target of producing 25 million tons of rice this year The Agriculture Minister also said that the demand and consumption of rice has increased in the country There are 165 million people in the country Every year 22 lakh new faces are added, we have to feed them.
