Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: The 17th death anniversary of Ahsan Ullah Master, one of the most prominent labour leaders and freedom fighters of Bangladesh, was observed on Friday, 7 May 2004 The parliamentarian was killed in a terrorist attack on the Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School ground in Tongi, Gazipur, a district next to the capital Dhaka, on 7 May 2004 during the four-party alliance BNP-Jamaat coalition government.

Bhawal Bir Shaheed Ahsanullah Master has brought the flag and map of this country in 1971, fighting the aggressive Pakistani forces in the Great War of Liberation.

Ahsanullah Master, a patriotic politician, was born on 9 November 1950 in a noble Muslim family of Hyderabad village in Pubail union of then Gazipur district His mother Begum Rosmetunnesa and father Pir Sahib Shah Sufi Abdul Kader Pathan His education started in his native village Hyderabad Primary School After completing his primary school education, he enrolled in Tongi High School.

After passing SSC in 1965, he enrolled in the then Quaid-e-Azam College (now Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College) in the 11th grade After passing his degree in 1970, Ahsanullah joined Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School in Tongi as a teacher He later served as the assistant headmaster (1977-1984) and headmaster (1984-2004) of the school with the title of Mahavir.

Ahsanullah Master was active as the president of Tongi Teachers Association.

Ahsanullah Master became involved in politics as a teenager He became active in politics in 1962 when he joined the movement against the Hamoodur Rahman Education Commission He became a fighter in politics and allied with the central leadership of the Awami League He continued to pursue politics during his studies.

Later, he became a follower of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of the Bangalis.

In 1968, President Ayub Khan of Pakistan plotted to permanently silence the Bengali independence movement by charging Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the Agartala Conspiracy Case Ahsan Ullah Master was elected a member of the committee for Tongi-Joydebpur formed to raise funds for the conduct of the historic Agartala Conspiracy Case.

He along with other members of the committee sold 10 paise coupons each for the'Mujib Fund ' He was an active member of the 6-point movement of 1966 and the eleven-point movement of 1969.

Ahsanullah Master jumped into the war of liberation to liberate the country On 19 March 1971, he played a significant role in motivating the people to disarm the Bengali soldiers of Joydebpur Cantonment by barricading the Pakistani forces coming from Dhaka On 26 March, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence and called for the liberation of Bangladesh.

Ahsanullah Master left home in response to Bangabandhu's call However, he was captured and tortured by the Pakistani forces before going to the war of liberation He joined the war of liberation in an injured state He took guerrilla training from Tandua, Dehradun, India and participated in guerrilla warfare in various places including Pubail, Tongi, and Chhaydana.

Ahsanullah Master was a man of organisation He was elected chairman of Pubail Union Parishad in 1983 and 1988 He was elected chairman of Gazipur Sadar Upazila Parishad in 1990 He served as the organising secretary, general secretary and working president of Jatiya Sramik League He was the chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).

He was involved with various social service organizations and institutions, including teachers'associations He left a shining example of running 9 textile mills for workers at nominal cost through cooperative societies in 1996 Ahsanullah Master played a significant role as a working-class leader in the political background of 1983, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1995 and 1996.

He was a leader of teachers As the president of Tongi Teachers'Association, he became a favourite of all by participating in all activities to realize the just demands of teachers.

On 7 May 2004, a day of mourning Like every day, the sky was sunny But the day was darker than the night The BNP-Jamaat terrorists came with firearms They were the scars on people's faces The sound of bullets The bullet hit the children of Gazipur, the dear old merchant's beloved man, the beloved'Sir'Ahsanullah Master.

The teacher was lying in a pool of blood in front of the school's science building.

Zahid Ahsan Russel MP, the eldest son of Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master, is currently serving as the State Minister for Youth and Sports in the Government of Bangladesh His younger son, Zabid Ahsan Sohel, died on 12 July 2013 in Singapore at the age of 33 while undergoing treatment.
