Rising Bengal News Bureau: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the eight-phase elections in Bengal and also a ban on chanting "Jai Shri Ram" in the election campaign.
In this regard, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Bobde observed that "this petition is election petition, so the petitioner has to move the High Court " < ID1 > In reference to the Supreme Court's observation, " This is not an election petition, so why should I approach the High Court?".
According to the petitioner, while Tamil Nadu with 234 seats is voting in one phase, Kerala and Puducherry in one phase and Assam in three phases, why is West Bengal asked to conduct elections in eight phases?.
The man also demanded a CBI probe against Amit Shah and Suvendu Adhikari for allegedly raising "religious slogans" and creating communal disturbance, a demand that was rejected by the Supreme Court.
