history of makara sankranti
Whether it is Bengali, or Bengali, the Poush calls us picnic, sometimes travel, sometimes meet. For Bengalis, the Poush month is "Lakshmi Masa." Poush Sankranti is Poush Parvan. It is the harvest festival. The sun has two speeds -- Uttarayan and Dakshinayan. Basically, Magha to Ashadha is Uttarayan and Shravan to Poush is Dakshinayan. English January 4 is the shortest day and the shortest night. When the sun's Uttarayan speed begins, the days become longer and the nights shorter. Also, the last day of the month is known as "Makar Sankranti," as the sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius. The sun's transit is called "Sankranti." So there are 12 Sankranti according to 12 zodiac signs. On one hand, Makar Sankranti is the festival of new crops and on the other, it is the beginning of Uttarayan.
It is on this Makar Sankranti that Bhishma of the Mahabharata, who was lying in Sharashayya, euthanized. Hence, it is said that when people die in Uttarayan, they are liberated and when they die in Dakshinayan, they are born again and return to the earth. It is also said that on this day, the struggle of Devasura ends. Vishnu kills the Asuras and buries their severed heads in the Mandara mountain. Hence, this day is considered the last day of the inauspicious period. It is also said that on this day, Surya went to visit his son, the ruler of Makara, Shani, for a month. Hence, this day is also considered a special day for father-son relationship. It is also known as Til Peeth, dedicated to the Vastu Devta and ancestors. It is also known as Til Sankranti. It is in this context that the practice of eating Til Peeth has begun. Since it is winter, it is necessary to keep the body warm. It is made on the new rice field by burning firewood.
This makes the body warm, and thus, warm food is comforting to eat on a cold winter night. So, in winter, all kinds of pithapuli are arranged in Bengali homes. Til pithay, ashke pithay, saru chikli, pati sapta, etc. are prepared on Paush Sankranti. A common practice during Paush Sankranti is "chauri-bauri." In some places, it is also called "auni-bauoni." In Hemanta, the paddy is brought to the farmer's house. The straw that was brought before "Muthalakshmi" is bathed in a river or pond and then the straw is spread around the house. This is the root of the attempt to tie Lakshmi to the house.
A rice bowl is wrapped around the neck with a few bunches of straw. This bowl is called a "bun." This last grain is cooked when all the rice in the house is finished. The household must gather food before it is finished. The next morning, after bathing in a river or pond, the water is poured into the bunches and the bunches are sprinkled. The bunches are then picked up one by one and thrown into a nearby river or pond.

Gangasagar Mela is held around Kapil Muni's ashram in Gangasagar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The proverb goes, "All pilgrimages are repeated." < / div > < div > Gangasagar is once. Apart from Gangasagar, another famous fair in West Bengal is the Jayadeva-Kenduli Mela on the banks of the Ajay River in Birbhum. Kendrabilva village, known as the birthplace of Jayadeva, the poet of Geeta Govinda, is known as Apabhramshe Kenduli. The Baul-Kirtan Mela here is thronged by people from all over the country and abroad. < / div >
Once upon a time, the fair used to go up the Ajay river. Then the local people used to go back to their homes in the evening after shopping. Later, the fair got an institutional form with the initiative of the local Nimbark Ashram. Then the scope of the fair increased. Different traders from far and wide used to set up shops in the fair. And after the fair, all the unsold things were bought by the Mohants of Nimbark Ashram. So all the shopkeepers used to go home smiling.
Later this fair was taken over by the West Bengal government. When the baul-kirtan was being played in the Akhara at the fair of Jayadev-Kenduli on the banks of the Ajay River on the day of Paush Sankranti, the Bengali village bridegroom started singing Paush early in the morning. In the house-farm, putting round balls of cow dung, on it, rice flour, radish, mustard flowers, Lakshmimas said with the desire not to let Paush go, - "Come, don't go, don't leave Janam Janam, come, come, come, come, come, come, sit quietly at my door." < / div >
Paush Parvan is also called "Sakran" in some places. This time Paush Parvan is on 14 January.
