Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: Global pandemic COVID-19 deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is grim in Bangladesh's neighboring country India Land border closure with the country has been extended for another 14 days, but emergency goods will continue to be transported from the Bangladesh side.
The decision to extend the land border closure was taken at a virtual meeting held on Saturday (May 8) with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen in the chair.
The rule that only Bangladeshi nationals staying in India for medical treatment and whose visa is less than 15 days old can return home through the Benapole, Akhaura and Burimari borders of Bangladesh was in effect at the time of the first round of decisions.
Bangladesh nationals wishing to return home due to expiry of their visa must obtain a No Objection Certificate from the Bangladesh Missions in Delhi, Kolkata and Agartala in India.
Bangladesh's land border with India has been closed since April 26 last year, and goods traffic continues to flow, though passenger traffic from India is suspended.
