Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: Journalists in Rajshahi, Bangladesh have demanded a ban on Hefazat-e-Islam for carrying out countrywide hartal and demanded immediate arrest of those who carried out the hartal The demand was made by a human chain program organized to protest against the torture and harassment of journalists by radical activists of Hefazat-e-Islam.
Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ) organized the program at Sahebbazar Zero Point in the city at 11pm on Saturday.
The speakers said that the word Hefazat means to protect But Hefazat-e-Islam is full of destruction Islam is a religion of peace Destruction cannot be allowed in the name of Islam They said that the Great Liberation War of 1971 was fought in the dream of a non-communal Bangladesh The constitution also has four principles.
It is a non-communal Bangladesh But Hefazat-e-Islam is spreading the poison of communalism The speakers also said that the radical activists of Hefazat have carried out destruction of government installations, tortured media workers, assaulted media persons, set fire to media vehicles, challenged the independence and sovereignty of the country Therefore, the religion-based organization should be banned immediately and those involved in the destruction should be brought to justice.
RUJ President Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme General Secretary Tanzimul Haque conducted the human chain Former President of Rajshahi Union of Journalists Mustafizur Rahman Khan Alam, current Vice President Bir Muktijoddha Taiyabur Rahman, Joint General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Tuku, Treasurer Sarker Dulal Mahbub, Rajshahi Television Journalists Association President Mehedi Hasan Shyamal, current Executive Member Zabid Apu, RUJ Former General Secretary Mamun-or-Rashid, Bangladesh Photojournalist Association Rajshahi Branch President Asaduzzaman Asad, and Rajshahi Metropolitan Press Club Former General Secretary Azizul Islam spoke.
Rajshahi Journalists Union executive committee member Shariful Islam Tota, members of IRUZ and journalists working in different media outlets were present.
