Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: The country's largest 1,000-bed Covid dedicated hospital was inaugurated at Dhaka North City Corporation Market in Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sunday (18 April) Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque was the chief guest at the inauguration of the hospital Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam was the special guest at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said that like the whole world, the second wave of COVID has hit our country The number of COVID cases and deaths is alarming The demand for ICUs is increasing every day In such a difficult time, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, this DNCC market has been inaugurated as a full-fledged COVID dedicated hospital on an emergency basis.
The total number of beds in this hospital is 1000 Out of this, 212 are full-fledged ICU beds, 250 are HDU beds, 438 are COVID isolation rooms There are 50 emergency beds, 30 for male and 20 for female patients Apart from this, it has RT PCR lab, pathology lab, radio therapy center, X-ray facilities and other facilities.
The hospital has been prepared in a very fast manner with tireless efforts in just 20 days At present, 260 beds are operational in the hospital There are 60 ICU beds, 50 emergency beds, 150 general wards In the next seven days, 250 more beds will be operational and the hospital will be fully operational by 29th of this month, the Health Minister said.
Highlighting the need to increase the number of COVID dedicated beds and increase the availability of Central Oxygen facilities in every hospital of the country, the Health Minister said that at present, Central Oxygen has been made available in about 100 hospitals in the country.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Health Services Division Secretary Lokman Hossain Miah, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr ABM Khurshid Alam, and Additional Secretary of the Health Services Division Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman were also present there.
