Airbags are mandatory for front seat passengers, the Centre said.
Rising Bangla News Bureau: The Center has proposed to make front seat airbags mandatory in new models of cars in India Till now, airbags were only in the driver's seat in cars in India Airbags are going to come in all new models of cars from 1 April.
However, for old cars or other models that do not have airbags, the Centre has said that airbags must be installed by August 31, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Ministry has issued Gazette notification regarding mandatory provision of an airbag for passenger seated on front seat of a vehicle, next to driver. This has been mandated as an important safety feature & is also based on suggestions of Supreme Court Committee

The draft proposal says that all cars will now have to have airbags in front of the front seats AIS 145 now requires airbags to be replaced as per Bureau of India Standards (BIS) A government official said that the whole world has agreed that the highest level of protection should be provided to passengers in case of car accidents.

In this context, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that airbags are now mandatory in all types of vehicles.
