Rising Bengal News Bureau: Government banks across the country will be on strike on Monday and Tuesday, March 15 and 16 One million bank employees will join the strike, as a result of which cash deposits, cheque clearances, cash withdrawals, and other transactions will be virtually stopped, but ATMs will remain open.
The United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has called for a two-day strike, with banks remaining closed on Saturday and Sunday, the second Saturday, and four consecutive days of closure.
The strike comes after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Union Budget that two banks and an insurance company, besides IDBI, will be privatised.
State Bank of India, Canara Bank have informed customers that their normal operations will be affected, while HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank will function normally.
