দিল্লি আক্রমণে আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালী
১৭৩৯ খ্রিস্টাব্দে দিল্লির বুকে নারকীয় গণহত্যা চালিয়ে এলাকাকে মৃত্যুপুরীতে পরিণত করেছিলেন পারস্য সম্রাট নাদির শাহ। আর সে নৃশংস অভিযানের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন তাঁর সেনাপতি আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালী।
কিন্তু নিজের সেনাপতি আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালীর হাতেই প্রাণ গেল নাদির শাহের। প্রভু নাদির শাহকে হত্যা করে শাসকপদে বসলেন আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালী। এরপর দিল্লিতে নতুন করে শুরু হলো আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালীর সেনা অভিযান। ফেব্রুয়ারির শেষে ছিল হিন্দুদের দোল উৎসব। আবদালীর আক্রমণে রক্তাক্ত দিল্লিতে হলো না কোনো রঙের উৎসব।
পরিস্থিতিটা ছিল, ---

অর্থাৎ, দরবারের ঐতিহাসিক বলছেন, কোনো মানুষ উৎসব পালন করেনি। সবাই শোকাহত, দুর্দশাগ্রস্ত।
দিল্লির পর আবদালীর আক্রমণের লক্ষ্য হলো মথুরা-বৃন্দাবন। আবদালী উত্তর ভারতের এই দুটি হিন্দু তীর্থক্ষেত্রকে আক্রমণের আদেশ দিলেন তাঁর দুই যোদ্ধা নাজিব ও জাহান খাঁ-র হাতে। সঙ্গে দেওয়া হলো ২০ হাজার সেনা। আবদালী আদেশ দিলেন, ---
"Move into the boundaries of the accursed jat, and in every town and district held by him ( Surajmal) slay and plunder. The city of Mathura is a holy place of the Hindus...let it be put entirely to the edge of the sword."----Fall of Mughal Empire, Vol.II, Page-82: Sir J.N. Sirkar.
অর্থাৎ, আক্রমণ করো সুরজমলের রাজ্য। অবাধে লুটপাট ও হত্যা চালাও তাঁর প্রতিটি শহরে, জেলায়। হিন্দুদের পবিত্র তীর্থ মথুরায় বয়ে যাক রক্ত স্রোত। এছাড়াও সৈন্যদের উৎসাহিত করতে আবদালী আরও একটি ঘোষণা করলেন, ---
"The Shah also conveyed a general order to the army to plunder and slay at every place they reached. Any booty they might take was declared a free gift to them. Any person cutting off and bringing in heads of infidels should throw them down before the tent of the chief minister, where with to build a high tower. Five rupees for each enemy head would be paid from govt. funds."----Fall of Mughal Empire, Vol.II, Page-68: Sir J.N. Sarkar.
অর্থাৎ হত্যা ও লুটপাটের অবাধ অধিকার দেওয়া হলো সৈন্যদের। তাদের লুঠের মালপত্র সম্রাটের দেওয়া উপহার বলেই গণ্য করা হবে। কাফেরদের প্রতিটি কাটা মুণ্ডুর জন্য বকশিশ দেওয়া হবে পাঁচ টাকা। এই কাটা মুণ্ডুগুলি জমা দিতে হবে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর শিবিরে। আর সেগুলি দিয়ে তৈরি হবে স্তূপ।
আবদালীর সৈন্যরা এই আদেশ পেয়ে মথুরার ওপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়লো ১৭৫৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ১ লা মার্চের সকালে।
ঐতিহাসিক যদুনাথ সরকার পাটনার এক সম্ভ্রান্ত পরিবারের কাগজপত্রের থেকে উদ্ধার হওয়া একটি ফারসি পুঁথিতে দেখেছেন, ---
"চারিদিকে ঘোষণা করিয়া দেওয়া হইল যে, আহম্মদ শাহ আবদালী যখন শহরে প্রবেশ করিবেন, তখন শোভাযাত্রা দেখিতে কেহ যেন ছাদে না যায়, ---রাস্তায় অস্ত্র লইয়া বাহির না হয়, ---আর দোকান-পাট যেন খোলা না থাকে।
....আবদালীর অনুচরেরা বালুচরের উপর দাঁড়াইয়া যে-কেহ কূপে জল লইতে আসিত, তাহাদের সর্ব্বস্ব কাড়িয়া লইত...মুঘলেরা (অর্থাৎ আবদালীর পারসিক সৈন্যরা) কতকগুলি গলির ভিতর ঢুকিয়া লোকের ঘরবাড়ী আক্রমণ করিল, দরজা ভাঙ্গিয়া ঘরে ঢুকিয়া টাকাকড়ি লুঠ করিল। তাহাদের অত্যাচারে হাটবাজার বন্ধ করিতে হইয়াছিল।"...
