Timur crossed the Indus (1398), massacred or enslaved such of the inhabitants as could not flee from him, defeated the forces of Sultan Mahmud Tughlaq, occupied Delhi, slept a hundred thousand prisoners in cold blood, plundered the city of all the wealth---and carried it off to Samarkand with a multitude of women and slaves, having anarchy, famine and pestilence in his wake.
That is, Timur invaded Hindustan in 1398 AD across the Indus River He killed or captured all those who could not escape Sultan of Delhi Mamud defeated Tughlaq and took Delhi He killed 100,000 prisoners indiscriminately in cold blood He plundered the city of Delhi and returned with millions of women and slaves to Samarkand.
He left behind anarchy, famine and pestilence for Hindustan.
Timur was stopped by the Sultan of Delhi, Mamud Shah Tughlaq, but he did not relent The formidable Turkic army, commanded by Timur, jumped into the Hindu massacre The Hindus set fire to their own houses to protect the honour of the family Their wives, sons, and daughters were burnt alive.
Then they stopped Timur's Turkish army But many Hindus died in the unequal fight The highway of Delhi was stained with blood Only corpses were left on the roadsides For 3 days, Delhi was ravaged by 150,000 Turkish soldiers There was killing, looting, burning houses Every Turk soldier took 50 to 100 men.
But no Muslims were killed on Timur's orders, nor were their houses looted The whole city was in ruins except for the houses of the Sayyids, the Ulema, and other Muslims He himself says the above in his autobiography.

I reflected that I had come to Hindustan for war against the infidels---I had put to death some lakhs of infidels---and I felt that I should not indulge in ease but rather to exert myself in warring against the infidels of Hindustan.
That is, I was in Delhi for 15 days I was enjoying my days I had a court, I had a big feast Then I remembered that I had come to Hindustan to fight against the infidels I had killed millions of infidels, the holy sword in their fresh blood.
Now it was not the time to relax, but to continue the war against the infidels So Timur started his campaign again This time Haridwar Haridwar was having a holy bath Millions of pilgrims had gathered on the banks of the Ganges Most of them were old and old Timur's Turkic army had stormed the unarmed pilgrims.
Many took refuge in the hills There too, Timur's army attacked Blood flowed down from the hills to the plains The waters of the Ganges turned red.

After Delhi, Timur made brutal raids on Meerut, Haridwar, and Jammu, which resulted in the fall of the latter.
"The invasion of Timur by Timurlang further increased the social distance between Hindus and Muslims.... The animosity between the two nations was perpetuated. Hindustan was shaken up in two ways by the coming of Islam, and strange to say, these ways were country to each other On the one hand it became conservative, it hardened and retired into a shell in an attempt to protect itself against the attack on it.
That is, the advent of Islam brought about a two-way change in Hinduism On the one hand, Hinduism took refuge in a hard shell, becoming conservative in its self-defence The flexible caste system became rigid On the other hand, there were voices of dissent against the excesses of caste, worship and religious practices.
