সুলতান কুতুবউদ্দিনের শাসনে দিল্লি
১১৯২ খ্রিস্টাব্দে তরাইনের দ্বিতীয় যুদ্ধে জয়ের পর তাঁর ক্রীতদাস কুতুবউদ্দিন আইবকের হাতে দিল্লি শাসনের দায়িত্ব দিয়ে স্বদেশ গজনীতে ফিরে যান সুলতান মামুদ। সুলতান মামুদের ক্রীতদাস ছিলেন বলে কুতুবউদ্দিনের প্রতিষ্ঠিত বংশ ইতিহাসে "দাস বংশ" নামে পরিচিত।
প্রভু মামুদের মতোই ধর্মান্ধ ছিলেন কুতুবউদ্দিন। তাঁর সম্পর্কে ঐতিহাসিক উইল ডুরাণ্ট বলছেন, ---
"Kutubuddin Aibak was a normal specimen of his kind-fanatical, ferocious and merciless. His gifts, as the Mahammadan historian tells us, 'were bestowed by hundreds of thousands, and his slaughters likewise were by, hundreds of thousands.'----The Story of Civilization: Will Durant.
অর্থাৎ, তাঁর প্রভুর মতোই ধর্মান্ধ, ভয়ংকর ও নির্দয় ছিলেন কুতুবউদ্দিন। এ বিষয়ে মুসলিম ঐতিহাসিকদের প্রশংসিত মন্তব্য, 'লক্ষ গুণের অধিকারী তিনি লক্ষ মানুষকে হত্যা করেন। উল্লেখ্য, এই লক্ষ মানুষ ছিলেন হিন্দু।
১২০৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দে কুতুবউদ্দিন বুন্দেলখণ্ড দখল করেন। এ প্রসঙ্গে ব্রিটিশ ঐতিহাসিক ভিনসেন্ট আর্থার স্মিথ জানাচ্ছেন, ---
"The gratified historian of the conqueror's exploits states that the temples were converted into mosques.....and the very name of idolatry was annihilated.....fifty thousands men came under the coller of slavery."----The Oxford History of Indian, Page-236: Vincent A. Smith.
অর্থাৎ, তৃপ্ত ঐতিহাসিকদের বর্ণনা অনুসারে, মসজিদে রূপান্তরিত হলো সব মন্দির, পৌত্তলিকতার নাম পর্যন্ত মুছে গেল। পঞ্চাশ হাজার মানুষ বন্দি হয়ে ক্রীতদাস হলো। এই পঞ্চাশ হাজার নিশ্চিতভাবেই হিন্দু।
আবার এ বিষয়ে ঐতিহাসিক ড: মুরি টাইটাস বলছেন, প্রায় এক হাজার মন্দির ধ্বংস করে সে সব জায়গায় মসজিদ তৈরি করেন কুতুবউদ্দিন আইবক। দিল্লির বিখ্যাত জামা মসজিদ তৈরি করেন তিনি। হাতির সাহায্যে যে সব মন্দির ধ্বংস করেছেন, সে সব মন্দিরের বহু মূল্যবান পাথর ও রত্ন সামগ্রী দিয়ে সাজিয়ে তোলেন জামা মসজিদ এবং মসজিদের দেওয়ালে খোদাই করেন কোরানের দিব্য বাণী। জামা মসজিদের পূর্ব দিকের দরজায় খোদাই করা আছে এ কথা। সাতাশটি মন্দির ধ্বংস করে তার মাল-মশলা দিয়ে তৈরি হয় জামা মসজিদ।

১২১০ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে ১২৩৬ খ্রিস্টাব্দ পর্যন্ত রাজত্ব করেন কুতুবউদ্দিন আইবক। দিল্লি পেরিয়ে মীরাট, আলিগড়, রণথম্বোর, গুজরাট, লক্ষ্মণাবতী থেকে লাহোর পর্যন্ত চলেছিল তাঁর জিহাদি অভিযান। এভাবেই দিল্লিসহ বিভিন্ন অঞ্চল জয় করার পর ১১৯৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দে কনৌজরাজ জয়চন্দ্রকে পরাজিত করে বারাণসী পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত করেন ঘোর রাজ্য।
কুতুবউদ্দিনের সময় থেকে এ দেশের বন্দি ক্রীতদাসদের বাইরে নিয়ে যাওয়া বন্ধ হয়। তখন থেকেই ক্রীতদাসদের একটি অংশকে রাজপ্রাসাদ, সেনা প্রধান, আমীর-ওমরাহ ও সৈন্যদের পরিষেবার কাজে বহাল করা হতো। বাকিদের ভারতের আভ্যন্তরীণ দাস বাজারে বিক্রি করে দেওয়া হতো। এভাবেই এ দেশে সরকারিভাবে মানুষ বিক্রির প্রথা চালু হয়।
