সমরখন্দের সিংহাসনে বসেই হিন্দুস্থান জয়ের পরিকল্পনা করেন তৈমুর লঙ্। উত্তর-পশ্চিম সীমান্তের একটি ছোট্ট হিন্দু রাজ্য কাটোর দিয়ে হিন্দুস্থানে জিহাদি অভিযান শুরু করেন তৈমুর। তার পর রাজস্থানের ভাটনীর রাজ্যটি লুঠপাট করার পর আগুনে জ্বালিয়ে পুড়িয়ে ধ্বংস করে পৌঁছলেন হরিয়ানা রাজ্যের সারসুতি নগরে। সারসুতিবাসীরা তখনও পর্যন্ত ইসলামের নাম শোনেন নি। আর এ কথাটা শুনেই তৈমুর এগিয়ে চললেন সেদিকে।
ত্রাস তৈমুরের আসার খবরে হিন্দুরা নগর ছেড়ে পালিয়ে গেল। তৈমুর তাদের পিছু ধাওয়া করতে অশ্বারোহী বাহিনী পাঠালেন। দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে শুরু হলো ঘোরতর যুদ্ধ। শেষ পর্যন্ত এই অসম যুদ্ধে নিহত হলো হিন্দু বাহিনী। তাদের স্ত্রী ও সন্তানদের বন্দি করা হলো, লুঠ করা হলো তাদের সম্পদ। এরপর কয়েক হাজার বন্দি হিন্দু নারীকে ফিরে এলো তৈমুর বাহিনী। বন্দিনীরা সবাই ইসলাম ধর্ম নেয়।
তৈমুর তাঁর আত্মজীবনী "মালফুজাত-ই-তৈমুরী"-তে বলছেন, ---
"When they heard of my arrival they abandoned their city. I sent my cavalry in pursuit of them, and a great fight ensued. All those infidels were slain, their wives and children were made prisoners, and there property and goods became the spoil of the victors. তৈমুরের কাছে খবর এলো, হিন্দুস্থানের জাঠরা অত্যন্ত দুর্ধর্ষ এবং তাদের সংখ্যাটাও অনেক। তৈমুরী আতঙ্কে তারা ইতিমধ্যেই দুর্ভেদ্য জঙ্গল ও মরুভূমি অঞ্চলে আশ্রয় নিয়েছে।
তৈমুর সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন, ---
"My great object in invading Hindustan had been to wage a religious wear against the infidel Hindus and it now appeared to me that it was necessary for me to put down these jats."Timur----Malfuzat-I-Timuri, Page-421, The Calcutta Quram Petition, Page- 61.
অর্থাৎ, কাফের হিন্দুদের বিরুদ্ধে জিহাদ চালানোই আমার হিন্দুস্থান অভিযানের মূল উদ্দেশ্য। তাই এই জাঠদের দমন করা দরকার।
জঙ্গল ঘিরে ফেলে তৈমুর বাহিনী। অবরুদ্ধ হয়ে জাঠরাও পাল্টা আক্রমণ করে। নিহত হয় ২ হাজার জাঠ। বন্দি করা হয় তাদের স্ত্রী-সন্তানদের। যমুনা নদীর তীরে শিবির তৈরি করেন তৈমুর। নদীর অপর পাড়ে লোনী দুর্গ ও শহর। তৈমুর আক্রমণ করলেন সে দুর্গ। খবর পেয়ে রাজপুতরা নিজেদের স্ত্রী-সন্তানদের নিরুপায় হয়ে ঘরের ভেতরেই পুড়িয়ে হত্যা করে। এরপর প্রচণ্ড বেগে তৈমুর বাহিনীর ওপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে। এ ছিল এক অসম লড়াই। তাই মরণপণ যুদ্ধ করেও শেষ পর্যন্ত পরাজিত হয়। অনেকে নিহত হয়, বাকিদের বন্দি করা হয়। পরের তাদেরও হত্যা করা হয়েছিল।
তৈমুরের আদেশ ছিল, ---
"I also ordered that the houses of Saiyads, Shaikhs and learned Musalmans should be preserved but that all the other houses should be plundered and the fort destroyed."----Taimur-----Mulfuzat-I-Timuri, Page-433, The Calcutta Quram Petition, Page-62.
অর্থাৎ, সেখ, সৈয়দ ও উলেমা বাদে সব হিন্দুদের ঘরবাড়ি লুঠ করতে হবে এবং ধ্বংস করতে হবে দুর্গ। জাঠ বধের দিন সংশ্লিষ্ট এলাকার সৈয়দ বংশোদ্ভূত এক প্রতিনিধিদল তৈমুরের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গিয়েছিলেন।
এ বিষয়ে তৈমুর তাঁর আত্মজীবনীতে জানাচ্ছেন, ---
"On the same day a party of Saiyads, who dwelt in the vicinity, came with courtesy and humility to wait upon me and were very graciously received. In my reverence for the race of the prophet, I treated their chief with great honour."-----The Koran And The Kafir, Page-31: A. Ghosh.
