খলিফা তখন এজিদ। কাবুলের ভারতীয়রা আরব শাসকদের বিরুদ্ধে ইতিমধ্যেই বিদ্রোহ ঘোষণা করেছে। সে বিদ্রোহ দমন করতে গিয়ে জুনজার যুদ্ধে ভারতীয় বাহিনীর হাতে নিহত হয়েছেন আরব সেনাপতি আজিত-ইবন-জিয়াদসহ তাঁর সেনাবাহিনীর প্রধানরা। ভারতীয় সৈন্যদের হাতে বন্দি হোন কাবুলের আরব শাসক আবু উবেইদ। পরে পাঁচ লক্ষ দিরহাম জরিমানা দিয়ে মুক্তি পান। কাবুলের ভারতীয় শাসক রাটবিল এরপর দুর্বার গতিতে এগিয়ে চললেন। মুসলিম অধিকৃত সিজিস্থানের অধিবাসীদের বিদেশি শাসকের কবল মুক্ত করতে উদ্যোগী হলেন তিনি। এজন্য সেখানকার ভারতীয়দের সব রকম সহযোগিতার আশ্বাস দিলেন। ভারতীয়রা এরপর আরব শাসকদের বিতাড়িত করে।
এদিকে ভারতীয় শাসক রাটবিল আরবদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করলেন। তিনি জারা হ্রদ পর্যন্ত অগ্রসর হলেন। এরপর আরব বাহিনীর সঙ্গে নিহত হলেন কাবুলের ভারতীয় শাসক রাটবিল। এরপর কাবুলের শাসক হলেন রাটবিলের পুত্র রাটবিল দ্বিতীয়। তাঁর আমলে আরব বাহিনী ফের কাবুল আক্রমণ করে। যুদ্ধ কৌশল হিসেবে আরব বাহিনীকে সামনা-সামনি কোনো রকম বাধা না দিয়ে রাজ্যের ভেতরে ঢুকতে দেওয়া হয়। এরপরই শুরু হয় আসল যুদ্ধ।
আরব বাহিনী তুমুল উৎসাহে কাবুলের ভেতরে ঢুকলে বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয় সমস্ত গিরিপথ। অবরুদ্ধ হয়ে পড়ে কঠিন সংকটে পড়ে আরব বাহিনী। এ অবস্থায় ভারতীয়দের সঙ্গে সন্ধি করতে বাধ্য হোন অসহায় আরব সেনাপতি আবদাল্লা।
কিন্তু খলিফা আবদাল মালিক এই অপমানজনক চুক্তি অনুমোদন করলেন না। পদচ্যুৎ করা হলো আরব সেনাপতি আবদাল্লাকে। কাবুলে বজায় থাকলো ভারতীয়দের শাসন। এখনও অনেকের কাছেই অজানা এই ভারতীয়দের বীরত্বের ইতিহাস।
