অতর্কিত আক্রমণে দেবল দখল করে বিন কাশিম ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়লেন নিরুনে। সেখানকার অধিবাসীদের কাছ থেকে খাদ্যসহ অন্যান্য উপকরণ জোগাড় করে আরব বাহিনী সিন্ধুনদ পেরিয়ে হাজির রাজা দাহিরের রাজ্যে। দু'পক্ষ সম্মুখ সমরে দাঁড়ালো রাওয়ার প্রান্তরে। শুরু হলো দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে ভীষণ যুদ্ধ, আল্-বিলাদুরির বর্ণনায় এই রকম ভয়ংকর যুদ্ধ এর আগে কেউ দেখেনি।
সিন্ধুরাজ দাহির হাতির পিঠে চেপে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে আসেন। কিন্তু হঠাৎ ন্যাপথা মাখানো একটি তির দাহিরের হাতির হাওদায় এসে লাগে আর তাতেই আগুন ধরে যায়। দাহির হাতির পিঠ থেকে নেমে বহু আরব সৈন্যকে বধ করেন।
তৃষ্ণার্ত হাতিটি জলের জন্য জলাশয়ের দিকে ছুটে যায়। জলপান করে কিছুক্ষণ পরেই ফিরে আসে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে।
ততক্ষণে রাজা দাহিরকে ঘিরে ফেলেছে বিন বাহিনী। চারদিক থেকে দাহিরের ওপর উড়ে আসছে ঝাঁকে ঝাঁকে তির। মাটিতে পড়ে যান তিনি, পরক্ষণেই উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে শত্রুর মুখোমুখি হোন। এক আরবি সৈন্যের সঙ্গে তাঁর হাতাহাতি লড়াই শুরু হয়। সে দাহিরের মাথায় তরবারির কোপ বসিয়ে দেয়। দু'টুকরো হয়ে যায় দাহিরের মাথা।
রাজা দাহিরের মৃত্যু সংবাদ শুনে ভারতীয় বাহিনী বেপরোয়া আক্রমণ করে আরব বাহিনীকে। কিন্তু নেতৃত্বের অভাবে দিনের শেষে ছত্রভঙ্গ হয়ে শেষ পর্যন্ত পরাজিত হয়।
এ বিষয়ে ঐতিহাসিক ড: রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার লিখছেন, ---
"A dreadful conflict ensued such as had never been heard of. Dahir dismounted and fought valiantly, but he was killed towards the evening, when the idolators fled and the Musalmans glutted themselves with massacre."
এরপর বিন বাহিনী মত্ত উল্লাসে মেতে ওঠে হিন্দু নিধনে।
অন্যদিকে, মুসলিম ঐতিহাসিক আল্-মাদাইনির বর্ণনা থেকে ঐতিহাসিক ড: রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার আরও জানাচ্ছেন, ---
" According to Al-Madaini, ' A naptha Arrow struck Dahir's howdah and set it ablaze. At this inopportune moment Dahir's elephant rushed into water to quench his thrust, and when he retreated, he was surrounded on all sides by the Arabs who showered arrows upon him. Dahir fell upon the ground, but he at once raised himself up and had a scuffle with an Arab who struck him with a sword on the very centre of his head and cleft it to his neck.' Driven to desperation by the death of their valiant king and leader, the Hindus assailed the Muslims with relentless furry, but they were defeated and the faithful glutterd themselves with massacre."
আল্-বিলাদুরির "চাচনামা"-য় এই যুদ্ধের বিস্তারিত বিবরণ আছে। এরপর রাজা দাহিরের ছিন্ন মুণ্ডু হাজ্জাজের কাছে উপহার হিসেবে পাঠানো হয়। সঙ্গে কাশিমের একটি চিঠি, তাতে লেখা, ---
"রাজা দাহিরের ভাইপো, সেনাপতি ও পদস্থ রাজকর্মচারিদদের ইতিমধ্যেই পরলোকে পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে। বিধর্মীদের ইসলামে ধর্মান্তরিত করা হয়েছে অথবা হত্যা করা হয়েছে। মন্দির ভেঙে তৈরি করা হয়েছে মসজিদ। প্রতি সকাল-সন্ধ্যায় সেখানে আল্লাহর উদ্দেশ্য নামাজ হয়।"
ড: টাইটাসের ভাষায়, ---
"The nephew of Raja Dahir, his warriors and principal officers have been dispatched and the infidels converted to Islam or destroyed. In stead of idol temples, mosques and other places of worship have been created, ....The takbir and praise to the Almighty God are offered every morning and evening."
এ প্রসঙ্গে আল্-বিলাদুরির "চাচনামা"-র কথা উল্লেখযোগ্য। তা হলো, বিন কাশিমের আগে যে সব মুসলমান সৈন্য সিন্ধু রাজ্যে বন্দি হয়েছিল, হিন্দুরা তাদের সঙ্গে ভালো ব্যবহার করেছে। ওইসব সৈন্যরাই বিন কাশিমকে একথা জানিয়েছিলেন বলে জানাচ্ছেন আল্-বিলাদুরি।
এমনকি, হিন্দুরা যখন সিন্দানের মুসলিম শাসকের বিরুদ্ধে বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ ঘোষণা শেষ পর্যন্ত তাঁকে হত্যা করেছিল, তখনও তারা মসজিদের কোনো অমর্যাদা করেনি। কিন্তু বিন কাশিমের সিন্ধু জয়ের পর সব ঘটনাই ছিল এর বিপরীত। ভালো ব্যবহারের বদলে হয়েছিল ধর্মান্তরকরণ কিংবা ইসলাম গ্রহণে অনিচ্ছুকদের হত্যা করা হয়েছিল।
