Joint portrait of Bangabandhu and Jose Rizal unveiled in Philippines.
Rising Bengal Dhaka Bureau: An artwork featuring a composite wooden portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Filipino national hero Dr Jose Rizal has been unveiled at the Jose Rizal Museum in Calamba, Philippines.
The artwork, carved by Filipino artist Nicholas P Aka Jr , was gifted to the Rizal Museum by the Embassy of Bangladesh in the Philippines as part of the celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation The artwork was inaugurated at the Rizal Museum on Wednesday (21 April) by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Philippines, Asad Alam Siam, and the curator of the Jose Rizal Museum, Jarrah Escueta.
Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Jose Rizal are two great leaders of Bangladesh and the Philippines who liberated their countries from subjugation at completely different times and contexts of history The artwork shows the visitors the incredible similarities between the history of the liberation struggles of the two countries and the sacrifices made by the two great leaders in that dream journey.
The event marks the beginning of a two-month-long exhibition on the Father of the Nation at the Rijal Museum, which will feature the autobiography of the Father of the Nation, famous books written on him, historical photographs, and other paintings.
Artist Nicholas said he visited Bangladesh in 2018 to participate in the Asian Fine Arts Exhibition After visiting the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, he found similarities between the lives of Jose Rizal and Bangabandhu that inspired him to create this artwork The event was attended by officials from the Calamba City Council, the Philippine National Historical Commission, the Philippine Information Agency, the Philippine Tourism and Sports Development Department, among others.
