Bangladesh Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the entire bridge structure has been completed and the bridge has moved a step forward with the installation of the last girder of the viaduct at the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge yesterday (May 1).
The minister said this while interacting with the officials of Sylhet Road Zone, BRTA and BRTC through a video conference from his residence in the capital on Sunday. The minister also informed that so far the progress of the main Padma Bridge construction is 93.25%, river management work is 83% and the overall progress of the project is 85.50%.
He also said that the government is making necessary preparations to open the bridge to traffic by June 2022. He also asked the concerned, including the chief engineers of the ministry and the Department of Roads and Highways, to be more proactive in starting the construction work quickly to upgrade the Dhaka-Sylhet-Tamabil Highway to four lanes, which is one of the priority projects of the government at the moment.
