কাবুলে আরব অভিযান এবং কাবুল যুদ্ধে কাবুলরাজ কাবুল শা
খ্রিস্টিয় সপ্তম শতাব্দীর মাঝামাঝি সময়ে আরব বাহিনী সিজিস্থান দখল করে কান্দাহারের দক্ষিণ পশ্চিমে বুস্ট পর্যন্ত অঞ্চলে আধিপত্য কায়েম করে। আরব সেনাপতি আব্দুর রহমানের সঙ্গে জাবুলিস্থানের শাসকের মিত্রতা চুক্তি হয়। ঐতিহাসিক লি স্ট্রেঞ্জ (Le Strange) বর্তমান কান্দাহার ও হেলমুণ্ড নদীর উচ্চ অববাহিকা সংলগ্ন এলাকাকে "জাবুলিস্থান" বলে নির্দেশ করেছেন। সিজিস্থানের শাসকপদে ওমরকে বসিয়ে স্বদেশে ফিরে যান আরব সেনাপতি আব্দুর রহমান। আব্দুর রহমান ফিরে যেতেই বিদ্রোহী জনগণ ওমরকে বিতাড়িত করে শাসন ক্ষমতা দখল করে। পরে অবশ্য আরবরা সিজিস্থান পুনর্দখল করে।
সিজিস্থানের পর আব্দুর রহমানের নেতৃত্বে আরব বাহিনী আক্রমণ করে কাবুলিস্থান। কাবুলের হিন্দু শাসক কাবুল শা-র নেতৃত্বে তাঁর সেনাবাহিনী প্রবল বাধা দেয়। দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে কয়েক মাস ধরে চলে একনাগাড়ে যুদ্ধ। দীর্ঘ লড়াইয়ের পর আরব বাহিনী রাজধানী নগরের দেওয়ালে ফাটল ধরাতে সমর্থ হয়। এরপর আরব বাহিনী রাতেই নগর আক্রমণ করে। সারারাত ধরে চলে দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে ঘোরতর লড়াই চলে। তবুও পিছু হঠতে বাধ্য হয় আরব বাহিনী। তারা রাজধানীর ভেতর ঢুকতে ব্যর্থ হয়।
রাত শেষে পরের দিন সকালে ফের হিন্দু যোদ্ধারা প্রবল শক্তিতে আরব বাহিনীর ওপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ে। ইতিমধ্যে ঘটে যায় একটি দুর্ঘটনা। একটি যুদ্ধ হাতি নিহত হয়ে রাজধানীর সদর ফটকের সামনে পড়ে যায়। শুরু হয়ে যায় বিশৃঙ্খলা। এই সুযোগে আরব বাহিনী নগরে ঢুকে যায়। দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে সন্ধি হয়। কিন্তু এর পরেই কাবুলের হিন্দুরাজা কাবুল শা কাবুলিস্থান দখল করে নেন।
হিন্দু রাজার কাবুল জয় প্রসঙ্গে কিছুটা ভিন্ন মত পোষণ করেন ঐতিহাসিক রেভার্টি (Reverty)। তিনি তাঁর "নোট্ অন্ আফগানিস্তান অ্যাণ্ড পার্ট অফ্ বালুচিস্তান (Note on Afganisthan and part of Baluchistan" )-এ জানাচ্ছেন, ---
"In 43 AH ( 663-664 A.D.) the Arabs invaded the territory of Kabul under Abd-ur-Rahman. Kabul Shah, at the period, was known by the title or name Arij, but this appears to be an Arabic word, and signifies "lamless" from birth. He moved out with his forces to meet the Musalman invaders, and after a severe battle, retired within the walls of Kabul and did not sally out again. Abd-ur-Rahaman continued before it for a full year, after which his (Kabul Shah) army having suffered great hardship and fatigue, the place was taken. The fighting men were put to the sword, and the women and children made captives. The Kabul Shah was also taken, and his head was ordered to be struck off, but he was spared on his agreeing to become a convert to Islam. He was then received into favour, a tribute was fixed, and the Musalmans retired."
অর্থাৎ, ৬৬৩-৬৪ খ্রিস্টাব্দে কাবুল আক্রমণ করেন আব্দুর রহমান। তাঁকে সসৈন্যে বাধা দেন কাবুলরাজ কাবুল শা ( 'শা' আরবি শব্দ, যার অর্থ জন্ম থেকেই খোঁড়া। তাঁর অপর নাম অরিজ)। দু'পক্ষের মধ্যে হয় তুমুল লড়াই। পিছিয়ে আসতে বাধ্য হোন কাবুল শা। এরপর প্রাচীর ঘেরা কাবুল নগরে ঢুকে তিনি নগরে আসার প্রধান ফটক বন্ধ করে দেন। নগর অবরোধ করেন আবদুর রহমান। এক বছর ধরে যুদ্ধ চালানোর পর ক্লান্ত কাবুল বাহিনী আত্মসমর্পণ করে।
মুসলমানরা নগরে ঢুকে সকল পুরুষদের হত্যা করে নারী ও শিশুদের বন্দি করে। কাবুলরাজও বন্দি হোন। তাঁর মাথা কাটার আদেশ হয়। ইসলামধর্ম গ্রহণ করলে তাঁকে মাফ করা হয় এবং বছরে নির্দিষ্ট কর দেওয়ার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়ে হারানো রাজ্য ফিরে পান। ইতিহাসের এই ঘটনা সম্পর্কে আজও আমরা অন্ধকারে। এ লেখা সেই অন্ধকার থেকে ইতিহাসকে আলোর মুখ দেখানোর একটি ক্ষুদ্র প্রচেষ্টা মাত্র।
