সিন্ধু দখল করার পর সেখানে শুরু হয় বিন কাশিমের আরব বাহিনীর বেপরোয়া তাণ্ডব। ঐতিহাসিক ড: টাইটাসের ( Dr. Titus ) মতে, একে একে দেবল, নিরুন ও আলোয়ারে বহু মন্দির ধ্বংস করে সেখানে গড়ে তোলা হলো মসজিদ। অপবিত্র করা হয় সেখানকার দেবতার বিগ্রহ। যেসব হিন্দুরা বাধা দিয়েছিল, তাদের হত্যা করে স্ত্রী-সন্তানদের ক্রীতদাস হিসেবে বিক্রি করে দেওয়া হলো।
এ বিষয়ে আরেক ঐতিহাসিক অ্যাণ্ড্রি উইন্ক ( Andre Wink) জানাচ্ছেন, সিন্ধু দখলের পর ভারতীয় যুদ্ধবন্দিদের ক্রীতদাস করে ইরাকসহ অন্যান্য দেশে চালান করে দেওয়া হয়। আল্-বিলাদুরি তাঁর "চাচনামা"-য় বলছেন, কয়েক লক্ষ হিন্দু নারীকেও পাঠানো হয় আরবে।
একদিকে হিন্দুর ধর্মবোধে আঘাত করা এবং অন্যদিকে আরব রাজকোষ ভর্তি করার উদ্দেশ্য নিয়েই বিন কাশিম সিন্ধুতে এই তাণ্ডব চালান। আল্-বিলাদুরির "চাচনামা" অনুসারে, সিন্ধুর একটি মন্দির থেকেই লুঠ করে পাওয়া যায় ২৩০ মণ সোণাসহ ৪০ টি বড়ো বড়ো কলসি ভর্তি সোণার দানা এবং সব মিলিয়ে মোট ১৩২০০ মণ সোণা।
এ বিষয়ে ঐতিহাসিক ড: টাইটাস জানাচ্ছেন, ---
"The author of the Chachnama writes that from one temple two hundred mans of gold were obtained and forty jars filled with gold dust. These were weighed and were found to contain thirteen thousand and two hundred mans of gold."---Indian Islam: Dr. Titas Ref. Writings and Sppeeches: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Vol.8, Page-60-61.
মূলতানে একটি বড়ো মন্দির ছিল। ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে ভক্তরা এই মন্দিরে আসতেন এবং প্রণামী হিসেবে লক্ষ লক্ষ টাকা জমা পড়তো। আর এই অর্থের লোভেই বিন কাশিম মন্দিরটি ভাঙেন নি, তবে বিগ্রহের গলায় ঝুলিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন হিন্দুদের নিষিদ্ধ এক টুকরো গো-মাংস। এভাবেই অপবিত্র করা হয়েছিল সে মন্দির।
বিষয়টির উল্লেখ করে ড: বি. আর. আম্বেদকর লিখছেন, ---
"Of the destruction of temples and the desecration of idols we have an abundance of evidence. Mahammad bin Quasim carried out his plan of destruction systematically in Sind, we have seen, but he made an exception of the famous temple at Multan for purposes of revenue, as this temple was a place of resort for pilgrims, who made large gifts to the idol. Nevertheless, while he thus satisfied his avarice by letting the temple stand, he gave vent to his malignity by having a piece of cow's flesh tied around the neck of the idol."----Writings and Speeches, Vol.8, Page-58: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
