সিন্ধুর রণক্ষেত্রে বীরাঙ্গণা রাণীবাঈ: যুদ্ধ শেষে জহরব্রত উদযাপন
স্বামী হত্যার প্রতিশোধ নিতে ১৫ হাজার সৈন্য নিয়ে রাওয়ার দুর্গে নতুন করে যুদ্ধের প্রস্তুতি শুরু করলেন সিন্ধুরাজ দাহিরের মহিষী রাণীবাঈ। বিন কাশিম পাল্টা অবরোধ করলেন সে দুর্গ। দুর্গের ওপর থেকে নিচে আরব বাহিনীর দিকে ঝাঁকে ঝাঁকে ছুটে আসতে লাগলো পাথর, তির আর বর্শা। অসম লড়াইয়ে প্রচুর সৈন্য মারা গেলেও রাণীবাঈ অত্যন্ত সাহসের সঙ্গে লড়াই চালিয়ে যেতে লাগলেন।
অবশেষে রাণীবাঈ বুঝলেন, শত্রু প্রবল। এঁটে ওঠা অসম্ভব। কিন্তু চিন্তিত হয়ে পড়লেন অন্দরমহলের মেয়েদের জন্য। ভবিষ্যৎ বিপদের আশঙ্কায় তাঁদের সবাইকে দুর্গের ভেতরেই এক জায়গায় ডাকলেন। বিধর্মীদের হাতে কলংকিত না হয়ে এবং পরলোকে স্বামীর সঙ্গে মিলিত হবার বাসনা নিয়ে সবাইকে জহরব্রতে যাওয়ার কথা জানিয়ে দিলেন। তবে যারা যেতে চায়, তাদের যাওয়ার অনুমতিও দেওয়া হলো।
জোগাড় করা হলো জ্বালানি কাঠ, তেল ও কাপড়। এসব নিয়ে সবাই ঢুকলেন একটি বড়ো ঘরে। সেই ঘরে জ্বলে উঠলো আগুন। অন্দরমহলের সবাইকে নিয়ে নিজেদের সম্ভ্রম রক্ষার্থে জহর ব্রত করে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়লেন জ্বলন্ত আগুনে।
এ বিষয়ে ঐতিহাসিক ঈশ্বরী প্রসাদ জানাচ্ছেন, ---
