ব্রিটিশ ভারতে ওয়াহাবী আন্দোলন: এক জেহাদের নাম
৭১২ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে ধর্মযুদ্ধের ডাক দিয়ে হিন্দুস্থানে মুসলমান অভিযান শুরু। এরপর প্রায় হাজার বছরের মুসলমান শাসনে থেকেছে হিন্দুস্থান। এই সময়ের মধ্যে "দার-উল-হার্ব" ( অমুসলমানের দেশ) হিন্দুস্থানকে "দার-উল-ইসলাম"-এ পরিণত করার ধারাবাহিক প্রচেষ্টা জারি থেকেছে।
এরপর ১৭৫৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ২৩ শে জুন পলাশীর যুদ্ধে ব্রিটিশ ভারতের যাত্রা শুরু। ভারতে ব্রিটিশ রাজ কায়েম হলে হিন্দুস্থান হয়ে যায় "অমুসলমানের দেশ" অর্থাৎ "দার্-উল্-হার্ব্।" এর প্রায় শতবর্ষ পরে ১৮৫৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে ঘটে সিপাহী বিদ্রোহ। সিপাহী বিদ্রোহের আড়ালে ইসলামী জেহাদ ব্যর্থ হয়। পুনরায় তা জেগে ওঠে শুরু হয় হিন্দুস্থানে "ওয়াহাবী আন্দোলন।"
আরব দেশে এই আন্দোলন শুরু করেন আব্দুল ওহাব নামে এক ব্যক্তি। হিন্দুস্থানে ওয়াহাবী আন্দোলনের প্রবর্তক উত্তর প্রদেশের রায়বেরিলির শাহ সৈয়দ আহমেদ। (১৭৮৬-১৮৩১ খ্রি: )। তাঁর বক্তব্য ছিল, হিন্দুস্থানকে কাফের কবল মুক্ত করে দেশটিকে "দার্-উল্-ইসলাম" করা। অন্যথায় এদেশের মুসলমানদের উচিত অন্য কোনো মুসলিম দেশে গিয়ে বসবাস করা।
একাজে সাহায্য চেয়ে সৈয়দ আহমেদ এদেশের এবং বাইরের দেশের মুসলিম শক্তিগুলির কাছে আবেদন জানান। এদেশের মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য নামগুলি হলো---হায়দ্রাবাদের নিজাম, হিরাটের প্রিন্স কামরান ও বুখারার আমীর নসরুল্লা।
উত্তর প্রদেশ ও হায়দ্রাবাদে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে এই আন্দোলন। এ বিষয়ে নিযুক্ত সৈয়দ আহমেদের খলিফাদের দায়িত্ব ছিল নিজের নিজের এলাকায় এই আন্দোলনকে ছড়িয়ে দেওয়া। ১৮২৭ খ্রিস্টাব্দে পঞ্জাবের শিখ শাসনের বিরুদ্ধে আন্দোলন শুরু করেন ওয়াহাবীরা। ১৮৩০ খ্রিস্টাব্দে তাঁরা দখল করে নেন পশ্চিম পঞ্জাবের রাজধানী পেশোয়ার। কিন্তু তা বেশিদিন স্থায়ী হয়নি।
১৮৩১ খ্রিস্টাব্দে বালাকোটের যুদ্ধে শিখদের সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষে মৃত্যু হয় সৈয়দ আহমেদের। এরপর পঞ্জাবে ব্রিটিশ আধিপত্য প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। ওয়াহাবীরা ইসলাম প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে ব্রিটিশের বিরুদ্ধে ফের আন্দোলন শুরু করেন। এরপর এই আন্দোলন দ্রুত ছড়িয়ে পড়ে দিল্লি, মীরাট, বেরিলি, বাংলাদেশ ও বিহারের বিভিন্ন জায়গায়।
বিহারের পাটনার খলিফা ছিলেন এনায়েত আলী। তিনি তাঁর প্রশিক্ষণ কেন্দ্রে মুসলিম যুবকদের পুরোপুরি সামরিক শিক্ষা দিতে থাকেন। এজন্য তাদের উদ্বুদ্ধ করতে গাওয়া হতো জেহাদের মহিমা গান।
ঐতিহাসিক ড: রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার জানাচ্ছেন, ---

অনেকেই একে স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলন বলেছেন। কিন্তু ঐতিহাসিক ড: রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদারের পর্যবেক্ষণে তা ছিল, ---
"...It was a struggle for freedom of the Muslims, and by the Muslims. The basis of the movement was religious rather than political, and its inspection came from communal and not patriotic sentiments. অর্থাৎ, তা ছিল মুসলমানের দ্বারা মুসলমানের জন্য স্বাধীনতা। রাজনৈতিক নয়, এই আন্দোলনের ভিত্তি ছিল ধর্মীয়। এই আন্দোলনকে ভারতের প্রথম স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধ বলা যেতে পারে, কিন্তু সে আন্দোলন সমস্ত দেশবাসীর জন্য নয়, তা ছিল শুধুমাত্র মুসলমানের জন্য।
আর তাই স্বভাবতই হিন্দুরা এই আন্দোলনে যোগ দেয়নি। শেষ পর্যন্ত ব্রিটিশ সরকার এই আন্দোলন দমন করেন।
