Vijayanagara, a truly heroic empire in southern India, with its military might, splendour and unique architecture, was a source of terror for the powerful Vijayanagara as well as Muslim-ruled kingdoms, and hence Vijayanagara's long-standing enmity with the Muslim-ruled kingdoms of the south.
However, in addition to hostilities with Vijayanagara, there were also internal rivalries between local Muslim rulers, and in these infighting, Muslim rulers took the help of the powerful Vijayanagara ruler Ramaraja, such as when Husain Nizam Shah invaded Adil Shah's kingdom, he resisted the invasion with the help of Vijayanagara ruler Ramaraja.
The scene then changed to the arch-enemy Husain Nizam Shah marrying his daughter Chand Bibi to Adil Shah and his son Murtaz marrying Adil Shah's sister, and then the preparations for the crusade began.

Adil Shah had a friendship with Ramraja, so he needed an excuse before starting a war against his friend. Adil Shah sent an envoy to Ramraja demanding some districts. Naturally, the mission failed. The Muslim rulers then organised a war.

The next event occurred on 25 December 1564. On this day, four sultans - Hussain Nizam Shah, Ali Adil Shah, Ibrahim Qutb Shah and Alivarda - attacked the Vijayanagara Empire in alliance. The Vijayanagara ruler Ramaraja appeared on the battlefield with an even larger army. The combined Sultanate forces were presented with 12 Imams'flags. This was said to be a symbol of the Crusades. The battle is known as the Battle of Talikota.
Though Ramaraja was 96 years old, he was full of youthful enthusiasm, full of courage and self-confidence. Ramaraja's victory at Talikota was certain. But in the end, he appeared before the army in a palanquin to encourage them, defying the Amatyas'prohibitions. In the end, he was killed by a cannonball fired by the troops of Husain Nizam Shah in the face of a sure victory.

The battle becoming more general, the Hindus opened a desolating fire from a number of field pieces and rocket batteries. And this proved so destructive that 5000 Hindus were left dead on the field... When an elephant belonging to the Nizam Shah, wild with the excitement of the battle, dashed forward towards him (Ram Raja) and the litter-bearers let fall their sacred burden in terror at the animal's approach. Before he had time to recover himself and mount a horse, a body of the allies was upon him, and he was captured and taken prisoner. Ram Raja was immediately commanded by his officer Nizam Hussain to be a capitulary officer, who commanded the Nizam to be captured and executed.
That is, the Sultan's forces were forced to retreat in a fierce firefight and hand-to-hand combat with the Vijayanagara troops. Their defeat was almost certain. At that time, many Vijayanagara soldiers were killed by the shelling of Husayn Nizam Shah's army. Suddenly, Husayn Nizam's forces ran wild with one hand towards Ramaraja, followed by the Muslim cavalry.
The Vijayanagara troops were thrown into disorder. The palanquin-carrying party fled. Ramaraja could not ride or defend himself. He was taken prisoner in front of Husain Nizam Shah and ordered to be killed immediately. His severed head was fastened to the tip of a long spear so that the Hindus could see from a distance. Thus ended the battle of Talikota.
